 Modern foreign languages Intent

At Thrussington Primary School, we have chosen to focus on the French language. Our aim is that our French curriculum leads to a love of learning languages and an understanding of life and culture in French-speaking countries.
In EYFS and KS1, the children learn simple vocabulary through games and rhymes. As the children move into Key Stage Two, the emphasis continues to be on spoken French but the children begin to learn simple phrases so that they can ask and respond to questions in French.
We have a rich range of resources in our school, including children’s books in French, French music, an interactive IT programme for use in KS2 and various games such as boules. We bring our lessons to life by having special events such as French country dancing and café afternoons to which family and friends are invited.
